Local doctors receive 2019 Health Care Heroes Awards

HATTIESBURG, MISS. - Richard Clatterbuck, MD, PhD, and Ronald Schwartz, MD, CPI, physicians with Hattiesburg Clinic, each received Mississippi Business Journal's 2019 Health Care Heroes Award during the annual awards ceremony Sept. 26 at the Old Capitol Inn in Jackson, Miss. The Health Care Heroes Awards honor outstanding men and women in the health care industry whose contributions have increased the well-being of the community. Recipients are selected based on nominations. Clatterbuck is a neurosurgeon with Hattiesburg Clinic Neurological Surgery. He treats patients suffering from diseases affecting the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves. This year, Dr. Clatterbuck became the first surgeon in Mississippi to use the only FDA-approved compound GleolanTM for enhanced visualization of high-grade brain tumors. He obtained his medical degree from Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Md., where he also completed an internship and his neurological surgery residency. Additionally, Clatterbuck completed a cerebrovascular fellowship with the Barrow Neurologic Institute in Phoenix, Ariz. He is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and has served as a neurosurgeon in the U.S. Army. Schwartz is a neurologist, researcher and the founder of Hattiesburg Clinic Memory Center. His practice is focused on patients with neurocognitive disorders primarily related to Alzheimer's disease and dementia. He is also the founder of disentangleAD, a nonprofit dedicated to easing the burden of caregiver stress by providing financial support to individuals caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's disease. Schwartz received his medical degree from Albany Medical College in Albany, N.Y. He completed his neurology residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, N.Y., where he also served as chief resident.
He went on to complete a fellowship in behavioral neurology at the University of Florida. He maintains board certification in neurology (ABPN) and sub-specialty certification in behavioral neurology/neuropsychiatry (UCNS). "We are proud of Drs.
