Swan Song: Who's right about retirees?

Plenty of people are pointing to one of two people trying to overturn the 2016 election and impeach the president -- Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff. A little closer to home, a similar effort is underway -- except this time it's in the Mississippi state legislature and one man deciding election outcomes. House Speaker Phillip Gunn has told four freshmen Republican representatives who retired from state government that they cannot receive both their state pensions and legislative salaries -- even though the public retirement board and an attorney general’s opinion says its okay. The change permitted lawmakers to receive their pension and a portion of their salary. But Gunn says the change goes

I am no constitutional scholar or lawyer so I can’t make any judgment on the merits of the case or lack thereof. I have pointed out shortcomings on both sides. To me, the phone call in question was just Trump being Trump. People elected him knowing he was a brash individual. If you wanted to get rid of him, do it in November and stop wasting the taxpayers' time and money. Well, now we know why Democrats are so adamant about a senate trial. This week, lead House Manager Adam Schiff told senators who are sitting in judgement, "The President

MDOT: Temporary closure on S.R. 13 in Lamar County

The Mississippi Department of Transportation says both directions of State Route 13, between U.S. Highway 11 and Old Highway 11 in Lamar County, will be closed for nearly all of the week of January 27th. The closure is necessary due to repairs being made to a railroad crossing, MDOT said. "Detour signs will be in place to direct drivers," MDOT said. "Motorists are reminded to be on high alert for roadside workers."
